What We Believe

Protecting public safety is one of the bedrock functions of government at all levels. Yet Colorado is the midst of a crime tsunami, affecting families and communities across the state.

In 2024, Colorado was listed as the third most-dangerous state by U.S. News & World Report. According to the Common Sense Institute, crime in our state is 29 percent higher than it was in 2011. Property crime rates and auto theft rates are among the highest in the nation, with violent crime at a 25-year high.

Liberal policies that place their focus on aiding criminals and reducing prison time instead of protecting communities, cracking down on illegal drugs (including fentanyl) and supporting crime victims have contributed to Colorado’s rising crime rates.

At the heart of Colorado’s school system is school choice, in which our state has been a national trailblazer for decades. – a system that has enjoyed deep, bipartisan support.

What We Do

At Advance Colorado, we’re not buying the liberal line that Colorado’s crime wave is just a figment of citizens’ imagination.

We have studied local efforts, including in Aurora and other communities, that are reducing crime neighborhood by neighborhood.

We are also proposing strong, common sense statewide measures that will keep criminals off the streets and expand Colorado’s investment in effective law enforcement:

Truth In Sentencing would end our state’s practice of letting violent criminals out of jail early where they are currently serving just 46 percent of their sentences on average. Truth in Sentencing would require criminals to serve at least 85 percent of their sentences before being eligible for parole.
Back the Blue would invest $350 million – without one dime of new tax money – in supporting the training,retention, and higher salaries of law enforcement officers. It would also create a $1 million payment for the families of law enforcement officers, first responders, and firefighters killed in the line of duty.
